Conquer Marble Mountain!
Takaka Hill is not just a hill, it’s an impressive mountain, rising to 900 metres above sea level. The mountain range is called the Pikikirunga Range, meaning “climb up high”, which beautifully captures the spirit of Via Ferrata climbing. The high elevation offers impressive views in all directions.
The road over Takaka Hill is an unforgettable journey of tight turns, steep drops and spectacular views.
Takaka Hill is often called “Marble Mountain” by locals. Over millions of years, the marble rock has weathered into an extraordinary karst landscape, filled with caves, sinkholes, and sculpted limestone formations. As a result, the geology here is unlike anywhere else in New Zealand.
Because of its ecological importance, the area was granted legal protection in 1985 through an Open Space Covenant. Its dramatic landscapes and unique sub-alpine ecosystem are so iconic that they were featured in the Lord of the Rings films.

The team at Takaka Hill Adventures are climbers, explorers, and adventurers who know the great mountain ranges of New Zealand. However, home for us is the Tasman District and Takaka Hill. We love to be outdoors, we love to to move, to climb, conquer challenges, and grow our skills.
